Know the load.

Include the equipment’s own weight and the maximum payload. Tell us how many wheels support it and whether the load is uneven or changes during use.

  • Equipment weight and maximum payload
  • Number of wheels and where the load sits
  • Manual or powered travel, frequency and speed

Describe the route.

The floor and working environment narrow down the tread, centre and construction.

  • Floor finish, joints, thresholds, gradients and obstacles
  • Indoor or outdoor use, wet areas and temperature
  • Cleaning products, oils or other process exposure
  • Noise, floor marking or electrical requirements

Check the fit.

Replacing a wheel? Photograph the complete castor, its mounting and any markings. Include a ruler in the photo where possible.

Plan the movement.

Describe how the equipment turns, travels and stays in position. One piece of equipment can have fixed, swivel and braked castors.

  • The wheel layout: which castors swivel and which are fixed
  • Straight tracking, frequent turning or a combination
  • Brake or positioning requirements
  • Travel frequency and bearing requirements
  • Quantity, equipment model and existing part numbers
